React!

Probably the most engaging and interesting way to get readers interested in a blog is to write opinion pieces.  The best way to write an opinion or editorial piece is in response to something else that other bloggers or reporters have written.  For this post, research an opinion piece or argument pertaining to your blog post…..see what kind of controversies are out there!  Read and annotate the article.  Then react to it!  This reaction piece will become blog post #3.  It should include:

  • A complete summary of the original article (1 paragraph) that follows the requirements of summary
  • A clear expression of your point of view: Do you agree, disagree or both?  Make sure your position/claim are clearly stated.
  • Engage 2-3 specific issues or ideas suggested in your chosen article.  Quote these AND discuss what you think about them.  This is your evidence section.
  • Then explain your position.  What are your reasons for agreeing/disagreeing/both?  Be clear, factual, and logical.  Explain YOUR solution/opinion. Although it is not required, you may use other research to support you.
  • Follow the ten requirements for writing a controversial topic without regrets.

  1. “Just Write the Damn Book Already!” By Joseph Finder. Maya Pavlet

The Article talks about the issues that people face when trying to write a book or screenplay, and gave out tips and steps to help get past those issues, The writer of the article, also uses jokes and stuff to compare to the issues of writing.
I think the author of the article is somewhat demanding you to do the job, but I agree that you should just get hopping on your writing and not worry about the problems. It also tells you to set a deadline and priorities so you get things done faster. And that writing should not be a hobby but a job so the no one will get bothered during the writing process.
The quotes are “ You do have time, if you really want to do it. Carve out an hour of the day for your writing.” They are right because people can carve out of their time to start writing, 2nd: “Everyone needs a deadline. Parkinson’s law says that work expands to fill the time up.” I think they mean that when you have a deadline, time goes faster and you get a lot more done. And 3rd: Writing is a job so go somewhere to write and do notcall it a hobby.” It IS a job that you want to get done. If you call it a hobby, people will bother you, as the writer put it.
I don’t want any changes done. The Article gives out good tips and just might help out stumped beginner writers.

  2. Maya,

I like the tone of voice you use throughout the blog! Good job! I would just watch out for some spelling errors. For example: in the beginning of the article in the first paragraph you had put a comma after "issues" and capitalized "the"

I am not sure if you meant to put a period there but please be sure to check.

I have tried to write many things in the past and when I have a hard time writing I feel this book would be a good source for me to use. I have a hard time starting off essays, especially when they have to start with a hook. However, your point of him being demanding makes me want to go find a different book to read.

  3. In the blog post “Are you an Artist or a Crafter” by Rachel Rand, was published on Crafting a Green World, she states her opinion that if you are a crafter, then you are an artist. Rachel believes that based on the materials you use, the ideas you have, and the crafts you make, you are an artist.

Although I agree with her statement to a point, I cannot accept the overall conclusion that anyone who crafts is an artist. In her first point she states “What sets us apart from traditional artists and crafters is that our choice of materials fills a need outside our desire to create.” Now this can be true in the fact that artists use original materials to create their original artwork. But, this doesn't me you can use garbage as a material and call yourself an artist.

Her second point states that “My perception has always been that those who came up with the idea in the first place, they were the artists of the crafting world.” I agree with her statement to point that if you come up with your own original idea, then you are infact considered an artist. Based off personal experiences though, I can clearly say that not every original idea is artist worthy.

I agree with Rachel's last statement which states, “My crafts came from my materials, my hands, and my love, and that makes them art.” I agree with this because the beauty of crafting is you can pretty much make whatever you want to make, and with that you have your crafted art. I don't believe, however, that someone who crafts hand turkeys for a living should call themselves an artist because that's just outrageous and in my opinion is not an artist.

Rachel's opinion that everyone who crafts is an artist is a little blown out of proportion. Yes, the crafts you make may be original and your own art. But, just because you make a hand turkey or a cotton ball snowman doesn't mean you are an artist. I believe there is a fine line between a crafter an an artists, and that is a crater makes things for the better good where an artist makes things as a way to express themselves.

    1. I like how you agree and disagree with this topic. I like how you put a quote in each paragraph it made it really nicely organized. You did not indent your paragraphs. I think that there is a difference from crafting and artists, but I do not think that it should be based on the materials they use. I think it is how the piece is presented. This was a very good article to include in this I feel like it could really start a fight between artists and crafters. I don't know really anything bad so please don't downgrade me.

  4. My article that I picked was Skiing is superior to Snowboarding by Tyler Delong. In his article he spends a lot of time explaining why skiing is much better than snowboarding. For example he talks about how skiing is most preferred and that snowboarders wreck the snow and ruin the jumps. He also talks about how skiing is traditional and that everyone should do it. He really tries to convince you to switch to skiing by the end of the article.

I do not agree with his article I believe he says false statements about snowboarding. I understand that he is a skier and he believes that everyone should ski but his facts about snowboarding are not true. All he is doing is convincing everyone to ski and making false facts about snowboarding.

“However, I also know that snowboarders slice unnecessary furrows in the mountain leading to washboard snow and grooved powder. This is just one of the many reasons why skiing is the best and most-preferred form of winter recreation.” This was a quote said by Tyler explaining one of the reasons why snowboarding is bad. I believe that skiers make as many grooves in the snow as snowboarders do. I also think there are just as many skiers out there as snowboarders it’s just whichever one you prefer. Also he said “ Skiing is much simpler. It is faster, it is easier and both legs are free to roam.” When it comes to skiing and snowboarding i don’t believe there is a simpler one to understand and learn easier. Everyone learns at a different pace. For example someone could take a long time to understand skiing but get snowboarding automatically. I skied first and was getting to board of skiing so I switched to snowboarding and loved it but took a little longer to get the hang of it. Also every sport takes time and practice before really getting it down. Also I don’t believe he can just say it is faster because snowboarders can get down the hill just as fast as skiers. It mostly depends on the experience you have.

For the most part I disagree with Tyler on this article. Everyone has there opinion on something and he obviously loves skiing and only likes skiing. You just have to make sure that you are saying the correct facts when writing an article. I think he brings up good points throughout his article and at the end he said it doesn’t matter if you're a skier or snowboarder we can all enjoy the view at the top of the hill.

    1. I like how you explain alot about how you think that the statements he is saying in the article are false. I think that you have a strong passion for snowboarding which I think is super cool. They shouldnt be making articles bashing another snow sport just because they like one better over the other.

  5. Summary
This article is about how Donald Trump is a bad person. The text gives out multiple cold hard facts and good reasons. It explains his ideas and the actual words that has came out of his mouth. He wants no muslims to come into the United States, deport innocent illegal immigrants and their families. He has also said and acted very immature.

    Reaction
In the article there were many different points that the writer claimed about the things Donald Trump has said. There are three that stood out to me the most. And I agree with the writer that Mr. Trump is a bad person with no filter. All the statements and claims were also 100% true.
One of the points I reacted to was “His declaration yesterday that he would close the United States to all muslim immigrants, show that he is simply a bad person.” I think this is very wrong. Why would he even dare saying that? America is made of immigrants. His ancestors were immigrants, everyones were. What he proposed was unconstitutional. Not only that but also inhumane and not American. Trump stereotypes all people from the middle east to be terrorists.
The article also contained this quote “He also wants to deport millions of their children (referring to the illegal immigrants).” This is wrong in many levels. I understand that they are illegal but what have they done to deserve deportation? He also plans to deport millions of their children. Deporting innocent families and the poor children is another inhumane thing to do. They would have no place to go. Even if they did it would be crowded becauses there will be over ten million people being kicked out of the United States.
Donald Trump also mocked a disabled reporter. It said in the article “he mocked a disabled reporter,” I do not think that is appropriate at all. It was a extreme immature and childish thing to do. Trumps maturity level is no higher than a middle schoolers. It is something that a bully would do.
I would not want an immature, racist, ignorant man as the commander and chief of the United States of America. He is not a good man and I completely agree with the article saying that he is a bad person.

    1. I like how you voice your opinion and stick to it. You make some good points in this. I do believe saying that those statements from the article were 100% true because it all depends on the readers point of view. But I like how you support your reasons for your opinion
